Winner of the 2009 Cartier Women's Initiative Awards
MN Environmental Services Ltd, an affiliate of Metamorphosis Nigeria, set up in September 2008 as a social enterprise to provide and manage modern public conveniences in Nigeria, emerged as winner of 2009 Cartier Women's Initiative Awards - "Laureates for Africa" at an event held on 16th October 2009, in Deauville, France.
MN Environmental Services entered its business plan to construct and manage 57 public conveniences in Lagos State over 5 years in an international business plan competition organised by Cartier, the Women's Forum, Mckinsey and company and INSEAD business school in March 2009. After the two rounds of the competition which comprised a selection of 15 finalists out of 820 applications received (the top three from each region -Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America & North America) on the basis of their short business plans and the submission of a detailed business and verbal presentation to the jury members, MN Environmental Services was selected as Laureates for Africa.
MN Environmental Services received coaching support for a full year, $20,000 Grant and an exclusive Trophy designed by Cartier.
World Toilet Day - 19th November 2009 "The Big Squat"
To mark this year's World Toilet Day, Metamorphosis Nigeria, a member of World toilet organisation, joined millions around the world to raise awareness for the 2.5 billion people without access to sanitation by squatting for one minute at 12 noon.
This event was organised by the World Toilet Organisation. Metamorphosis held this event at a public convenience facility it provided in Obalende-Ijeh Bus Park in Obalende, Lagos State. The facility is provided on a pay for service basis and serves 800 people daily.
